Description: Sangrim, which was built by Choi Chi-won while he was the governor of Cheonryeong-gun, is historically one of the oldest artificial forests in Korea.
History background
Sangrim is Hoanrim, located along the stream of Wicheon flowing west of Hamyang-eup. At that time, it is said that the current Wicheon water was flowing through the center of Hamyang-eup, so the flood damage was severe. Choi Chi-won built an embankment to divert the river to its present location, built an embankment along the riverside, and planted trees along the embankment to create a forest that continues to this day. At that time, this forest was named Daegwanrim and was well protected, so it was able to sufficiently prevent flood damage. After that, the middle part was destroyed and divided into Sangrim and Harim as it is now, and the Harim section was damaged due to the formation of a village, and several trees stood. Only the Sangrim remains where only traces remain and the forest is maintained as it was in the old days.
Tourist attraction characteristics
The beauty of Sangrim can be enjoyed in all four seasons: fresh green in spring, greenery in summer, colored leaves in autumn, and snowy scenery in winter. In particular, in summer, if you spread a mat and lie down in the shade of a tree in the forest, you can feel the atmosphere of freshness in the city. In addition, it is easy to see that the trail created in the forest of Sangrim is being used as a place for conversation and love between lovers and families. In addition, Sangrim has 120 types of trees along the 99,200㎡, 1.6km embankment, making it a good place for children to learn about nature.
